Day 10 hike to Siler Bald Shelter

It had been raining all night, and it was still raining when my dad and I got up. The forecast said it wasn’t going to stop until 10 AM. So that’s why we got up at 8:30 AM, we actually woke up earlier but stayed in bed. At 9 AM we finished packing everything up. We decided to have a proper breakfast since it was going to be long day of hiking. For breakfast we had Poha. It is an Indian Dish, usually had for breakfast. It was the best meal ever! Once we finished eating breakfast and cleaning the dishes, it was 10ish and the rain had stopped. So, we decided to head out. Before leaving, my dad found a pair of Gators for me. Since my shoes weren’t water proof, I used them.

The hike throughout the day was very tiring. In the middle of the day we came to road that was at the bottom of a very short, but very steep mountain. You had to climb 200 feet in .3 miles. It took us 30 minutes to get to the top of Albert Mountain. At the top there was a watch tower. We spent about 15 minutes there, taking a break, eating some trail mix, and enjoying the view. Even though it was foggy. (pics below)

Luckily, the climb down wasn’t nearly as bad as it was up. We didn’t stop for lunch since we already ate breakfast. Because of the setback in time from the rain, we decided to stop hiking at about 8:30 PM. The plan was to get to Siler Bald Shelter by then. We arrived at the shelter just in time. When we arrived my legs were aching, and kind of in pain. It was already very late, so we inflated our air mats, and decided to sleep in the shelter. For dinner we had chicken with rice, and it was great. That day, we had hiked almost 20 miles, it was a big accomplishment.
