At 7 AM we got up and got ready to leave. I couldn’t wait to get back to “civilization”. We only had 10 more miles to Fontana Dam, and the goal was to get there by 1 PM. At 7:30 we left Cody Gap started our hike. The hike wasn’t so bad. It was pretty gradual along the way. There were some climbs on the way to Fontana but they weren’t so bad, because they were not steep. But, there is a giant 2 miles down to the dam, which took us a while. By the time we got to the bottom I was exhausted. Near the dam there were a few viewpoints along the way. (pics below)
We got to Fontana Dam at about 1 PM. Lucky for us, it was right on the trail. At the visitors center there were changing rooms and showers. So we decided to clean ourselves up. It was very refreshing. On the drive back home, my dad got us both two Spicy Chicken Burgers from Wendy’s, and a Hot Fudge Sundae from DQ. Yummmmmm! As of that day, we had finished 165 miles on the Appalachian Trail.
