We drove to the Tennessee Welcome Center the night before, and stayed there. We got up at 7:30 AM, and left for Mountain Harbor at 8. When we got to Mountain Harbor, we parked our car there, booked a shuttle for Thursday morning, and then started our hike at 9:30. Our day started with a long and gradual hike. From there we had a down to Jones Falls, where we ate tuna and roti for lunch with some trail mix. We walked next to the river for a while. Then we had small ups and downs to Mountaineer Falls Shelter. Once we got to the shelter, it was still too early, so we decided to push to the tentsite at 411.3, and if we couldn’t get there, we would stop earlier. At about 7:30 PM, we reached a small stream at mile 409.8. Since it was getting dark, we decided to camp there. After setting up our tent, we ate Kathmandu Curry for dinner, and then went to hang our food. We tried to hang our food many times, but we were very unsuccessful. So we stuffed what we could in the bear canister, and hung the rest on a reachable branch. Then we just hoped for the best, and went to bed.
