We got up early at 7 AM, and packed up our stuff and left at 8:30. Our plan was to finish our section to Damascus, Virginia, today and be done with this section. The whole day was going to be fairly easy with a gradual flat of very small ups and downs, and then a final down to Damascus. The hike was a break and it was calm and somewhat relaxing. We weren’t rushing too much because even if we couldn’t make it, we would camp somewhere about 3 miles from Damascus and then finish up the rest tomorrow. We had 8.3 miles to Abingdon Gap Shelter, where we would stop for lunch. We arrived at the shelter at 1 PM, there we saw a young man out of college called Trail Mix, who was hiking the Appalachian trail for fun. He was eating 8 pop-tarts a day which was amazing. For lunch we had Pad Thai with chicken, and some tuna. After we were done we said goodbye and headed on our way. From the shelter it was all easy hiking down to VA. We reached the Tennessee/Virginia border at mile 467 at 4 PM. We kept going to Damascus and decided that we would stay at the Broken Fiddle Hostel. Once we finally got to Damascus 6 PM, we decided to go to the Damascus Diner to eat first, and then we would go to the hostel. At the diner my dad ordered a chicken sandwich and I ordered a beef burger the food tasted really good and we were full and satisfied. After eating we went and checked in to the hostel, there we took showers and did our laundry. We then took rest and were going to be picked up the next day.
In the morning, we got up checked out of the hostel, and went back to the Diner for breakfast. The food wasn’t as good as the dinner yesterday, but it was still alright. Then, we walked around town for a bit waiting for our shuttle to come pick us up. Once the shuttle picked us up, we went back to Mountain Harbor B&B, where we parked our car and drove home, finishing another section of the Appalachian Trail.
