At around 7 AM, we got up and hit the trail early. Our goal was to get all the way to Standing Bear Farm, which was about 24 miles away. We decided that we had to take this hike slow and steady, and even if we couldn’t make it, it’s okay. Luckily for us, it wasn’t going to be raining during the day, only at night. About a mile in we came across a viewpoint called Eagle Rocks, which was nice. (pic below)
The hike wasn’t bad at the start, but in the middle of the day it became more difficult. There were many big ups and downs. It was treacherous on the ankles and knees, but we kept pushing. At noon, we stopped to rest and have some lunch. We had chicken casserole, which was starting to taste kind of bad. But, we still ate it, we needed that energy to complete the hike.
We kept hiking, step by step, until about 8 PM, when we finally hit I-40. once we got to I-40, we called the farm to ask if there were any beds available. Thankfully there were, so we just hiked another mile until we reached. It felt so good to finally stop hiking. We took our time to get supplies from the camp store, and eat our dinner, cereal and a burrito. After that we went to bed after a long day of hiking, finally getting some good rest.
